Albrighton and Donington Parish Council has reminded residents that financial help is available for anyone finding it hard to keep up with bills, heating or unexpected costs over the coming months. The notice, published on Tuesday 20 October 2026, points people towards a government-funded scheme run by Shropshire Council and to several free advice services.
The Crisis and Resilience Fund
The fund is paid for by the UK Government and managed by Shropshire Council working with local partners. According to the parish council, it can help with:
- rent and other housing costs
- heating oil and essential energy costs
- unexpected financial difficulties
- advice on money and bills
- Council Tax, benefits and housing support
Residents do not have to be receiving benefits to apply, although eligibility criteria apply. Applications can be made online through the Shropshire Council cost of living pages. Before starting, have your most recent bank statements to hand for every account you hold.
For anyone who would rather speak to someone in person, trained advisers are available at the Shropshire Local hubs in Shrewsbury and Ludlow and through the Shropshire Local Mobile service. Shropshire Council's benefit service can be reached on 0345 678 9002 and its Welfare Support Team on 0345 678 9078.
