Albrighton and Donington Parish Council has announced the date for this year's Christmas lights switch-on and fayre. The event will run from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday 26 November 2026 along the main stretch of the High Street and the top of Station Road, and is being organised together with The Red House.
What is happening
- 6pm: the Christmas lights will be switched on, with people asked to gather outside The Red House.
- 6.30pm: a new Christmas tree on the Village Green, next to The Harp, will be lit for the first time, followed by carols around the tree.
- All afternoon and evening: The Red House will host its Christmas Fayre with stalls inside the building, village shops plan to stay open later, and local businesses will be serving food and festive refreshments.
A new tree for the Village Green
The tree and its lighting are new for 2026 and are being paid for by the parish council. The council said the programme had been shaped by a Christmas Lights Working Group of parish councillors and local businesses, drawing on feedback from previous years.
Road closure and parking
The High Street will be closed between Meadow Road and Cross Road from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on the night. A signed diversion will be in place and marshals will be on hand. Drivers are asked to allow extra time and follow the marshals' instructions. Details of the closure are listed on One.Network, and Shropshire Council Customer Services can answer questions on 0345 678 9006.
How to get involved
Anyone hoping to run a stall at the fayre should contact The Red House directly. General questions about the event can go to the parish council office in the Library Building on Station Road, on 01902 375455, open weekdays from 9am to 4.30pm (closed 12.30pm to 1.30pm). The council's next full meeting is at The Red House at 7pm on Thursday 15 October 2026, and members of the public are welcome. Full details are on the parish council notice.
