High Street resurfaced in June

Shropshire Council and Kier resurfaced the High Street over seven working days with a daytime closure.

Albrighton High Street was resurfaced in June as part of Shropshire Council's 2026 road maintenance programme.

The arrangements

Work ran from Monday 15 June to Tuesday 23 June, on weekdays only between 9.30am and 4pm to avoid the busiest times. The road was closed to through traffic during working hours, with a signed diversion.

  • Emergency vehicles on blue lights kept access throughout.
  • Pedestrians, horse riders and cyclists who dismounted could pass through.
  • Residents and businesses inside the closure could reach their properties when it was safe.
  • No parking was allowed on the High Street while crews were working.

What was done

Kier, working for the council, removed the worn top layer and laid fresh asphalt with a paving machine before rolling it smooth. The council said resurfacing is intended to stop the road breaking up again and cut down on future potholes.

The scheme was one of more than 90 roads being fully resurfaced across Shropshire this year, with around 70 more getting surface dressing.
