RAF Museum Midlands at Cosford has announced a space-themed programme for the October half term. Called Jet and Space Week, it runs from Monday 26 October to Sunday 1 November 2026. Entry to the museum stays free, with a small charge for two of the activities.
What is on
- Planetarium dome show, Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 October: a 45-minute, 360-degree tour of the solar system. Tickets cost £6.50 per person.
- Moon rock and meteorites, Monday 26 to Thursday 29 October: a free 45-minute show and tell built around a piece of moon rock brought back by an Apollo mission, with the chance to handle meteorites. Places in each session are limited.
- LEGO Balloon Jet, Monday 26, Wednesday 28 and Friday 30 October: a free drop-in activity, morning and afternoon, where families build a LEGO aircraft, fix a balloon to it and see how far and fast it goes.
- Spooky storytelling aboard the VC10, Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November: sessions through the day inside the museum's VC10, with stories about a wartime airfield that later became the museum. Tickets cost £5 per child and space on board is limited.
The museum's public events manager, Shannon Bent, said the week was meant to bring "that spirit of curiosity to life" for visiting families.
Red Arrows Challenge extended
The museum has also given its Red Arrows Challenge more time. The fundraising challenge, in which people run, walk or cycle a distance of their own choosing at their own pace, was due to end with the Red Arrows display season but will now close on 30 November.
Entry costs £22 for adults, £11 for children and £16.50 for members of the Armed Forces community, including cadets and veterans. Everyone who finishes receives a commemorative coin, and those who raise £50 or more also get a t-shirt. Prizes, including tickets to the RAF Air Show in June 2027, will be drawn when the challenge closes. Money raised supports the museum's work telling the story of the RAF.
How to book
Session times and booking for Jet and Space Week are on the museum's October half term page. The museum recommends booking early because places are limited. Visitors coming by train can now use the new footpath from Cosford station to reach the site.
