Padel and pickleball courts approved at Albrighton Garden Centre

Eight courts, with changing facilities and parking, have been given planning permission on land next to the garden centre car park.

Shropshire Council planning officers have approved plans for eight sports courts at Albrighton Garden Centre: four for padel tennis and four for pickleball, along with changing facilities and extra parking.

The application was made by Woodthorpe Hall Garden Centres Ltd and Padel4U Ltd. The courts will sit on land next to the garden centre car park. Although the site is in the green belt, it was treated as grey belt, where outdoor sports facilities are not normally considered inappropriate development.

Albrighton and Donington Parish Council supported the application.

About the sports

Padel is a racquet sport played in doubles on an enclosed court about a third the size of a tennis court. Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. Both have grown quickly in the UK in recent years.

Opening dates and booking details have not yet been announced. The full decision notice can be found by searching 26/01753/FUL on Shropshire Council's planning portal.
